.Officers from four local police departments handed out citations to 53 partygoers at one house Saturday morning, including a 9-year-old, during a party patrol in Dinkytown, according to a Minneapolis police report.
The Minneapolis Police Department, University Police, Minnesota State Patrol and Minneapolis Park Police broke up a party on the 500 block of 12th Avenue Southeast, Minneapolis Police spokeswoman Tammy Diedrich said.
Most of the people cited were under 21, and were cited for either underage drinking or for being at a disruptive party, or both.
Officers seized five kegs of beer from the party, but no one went to jail, Minneapolis Police Lt. Greg Reinhardt said.
“Tagging 50, 60, 70 people for larger parties is not unusual,” Reinhardt said. “We’ve had parties in the past where we’ve tagged well over 100 people.”
Six people of legal drinking age and three people under 18, including the 9-year-old boy, were cited, according to the reports.
Diedrich said police aren’t sure why the 9-year-old boy was at the party. He did, however, receive a citation for consuming alcohol, according to the report.
Many of the minors can go through a mediation process to have the incident removed from their record, Reinhardt said.
“There will probably be four people charged with a gross misdemeanor for supplying alcohol to minors,” he said.
That decision is left up to the city attorney’s office, he said.
Two arrested for throwing construction barrel off 10th Avenue bridge
Two University students were given citations Saturday night after throwing a large construction barrel into the Mississippi River, according to a University police report.
Scott Schofield, 19, and Thomas Walthour, 20, were cited for disorderly conduct when they and three other men threw a barrel over the 10-foot fence lining the 10th Avenue bridge.
After the men got the barrel over the fence, they jumped up and down and gave each other high fives.
Reporting University Officer Luke Huck drove over to the men with his emergency lights on and they began to run, the report said.
He was able to catch Schofield and Walthour after a 20-yard chase, but the other three men got away.
Schofield then tried to give the officer a fake ID, but later admitted to drinking and being underage, and gave Huck his correct driver’s license.
Walthour, who registered at .27 during a breathalyzer test, and Schofield, who registered at .177, were legally drunk when they threw the barrel off the bridge, University Deputy Police Chief Steve Johnson said.
The two men were cited for disorderly conduct, underage consumption of alcohol and fleeing from police, and could still be charged with property damage, Johnson said.
Man robbed outside Carlson school
A Minneapolis man was beaten and robbed outside the Carlson School of Management late Tuesday, according to a University police report.
Chad Levinski, 26, was jumped by four males at 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the report.
Levinski told police the men stole his cell phone, wallet and apartment keys.
One of the men threatened to shoot him, Levinski told police, but he never saw a gun.
University police have no suspects at this point, and the investigation is still ongoing, Johnson said.
