November 18, 2008

Defensive players Lee Campbell and Kyle Theret are both “day-to-day,” Head Coach Tim Brewster said Tuesday.
Both suffered sprained ankles against Wisconsin and Brewster said neither would practice fully on Tuesday.
“We could have them both, or we could not have either one on Saturday,” Brewster said. “It’s just a matter of how they progress throughout the week.”
Campbell, a senior, moved to linebacker this season after playing on the defensive line last year and leads the team in total tackles (71) and is second in sacks (4) .
Theret, a sophomore, leads all defensive backs in tackles (63) and is second on the team interceptions (3).

Kangas named WCHA Player of the Week

After making the most saves of any Minnesota goalie in a shutout in 20 years, Alex Kangas was rewarded with the WCHA Player of the Week award .
Kangas made 38 saves against Michigan Tech on Sunday in a 3-0 win, the first shutout of his career. It was the most saves since Rob Stauber made 40 saves against Colorado College in 1988.
Kangas made a total of 62 saves and allowed just two goals on the weekend, as the Gophers won and tied against Michigan Tech.
“Alex earned it,” Head Coach Don Lucia said after Saturday’s game. “Tech had as many scoring chances as we did. He certainly earned the shutout. The guys, the last couple minutes, were conscious of it and really wanted to try and get it for him.”
