Krob finishes second in horse

Senior co-captain Jason Krob finished in a tie for second place in the pommel horse finals Saturday at the NCAA men's gymnastics championships in Lincoln, Nebraska.

"It was an incredible feeling," Krob said. "Quite the end to my career."

Krob finished with a score of 9.7375, just .0375 of a point behind winner Brandon Stefaniak of Penn State. Krob had previously defeated Stefaniak in the NCAA Regional on April 10.

While Krob was the lone Gophers athlete competing this weekend, the one-time walk-on insisted that his success was a culmination of the assistance he's had during his career.

"The support I've had these four years from coaches, teammates, families and friends has been great. I want to thank them all for helping to drive me to succeed," Krob said.

Krob became the first Gophers gymnast to earn All-America honors since 1995, when Brian Yee finished third on the pommel horse.

Men's tennis

Minnesota geared up for the Big Ten championships next weekend by waxing Penn State 7-0 Saturday at the Northwest Athletic Club.

The Gophers won all six singles matches and two out of three doubles matches.

The team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to compete April 29 to May 2 in the Big Ten championships. They will go in with a 12-10 overall record, 7-3 in the Big Ten.

Women's swimming-diving

The 1999 Big Ten Champion Gophers named Terri Jashinsky, Kate McMillan, and Rachel Degener their captains for next season.

"It's really an honor, because it is up to my teammates that voted," Jashinsky said. "That really means a lot."

Jashinsky also was named co-most valuable player this season along with Jenny Hennen. The duo were Minnesota's individual Big Ten champions, in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, respectively. Jashinsky also earned honorable mention All-America acclaim in the 100 fly.

"It's going to be a lot of fun being a captain of such a successful team," Jashinsky said. "We're looking forward to next year."
