In reading Network’s conversation with “self righteous ho,” I was deeply disgusted and offended that The Minnesota Daily would print something like this when the Daily doesn’t even allow article comments online that could be considered offensive. Even if the whole thing is a joke, it just goes to show that when these sort of things are joked about, people seem to think that it is OK. The way that women in the sex industry are discussed is horrible — as if they are not people who deserve respect.
To hear Network refer to women, who make up a majority of those working in the sex industry, as “pretty little hookers and strippers” is blatantly offensive, especially to those of us who acknowledge that women are more than just their bodies and sexuality.

If it is ok to denigrate, insult, and stereotype men (in fact it often seems as though not only is it ok, but it is encouraged) then it is fine to treat women the same way. The Minnesota Daily would not allow racial or religious pejorative language in Network. (At least I hope they wouldn't!) So why do they allow sexist language?

Network also claims that he is a brain in a vat living somewhere deep beneath the University and has regular exchanges with a squirrel in which both promise violence and death upon MNDaily's Dr. Date.
But I have to agree, Network is way harder to read this semester. Just not appealing at all.

Even if network is, as he supposedly claims, "a brain in a vat," the column is still written by a person. But more importantly, Network would not print something blatantly racist, so why is it okay to print blatant misogyny?
