St. Paul police closed their investigation into the death of Dan Zamlen Wednesday morning, deeming it “accidental” and caused by “fresh water drowning,” according to a police statement.
The body of Zamlen, a St. Thomas student who would have recently turned 19, was discovered in the Mississippi River near the Ford power plant May 1 after a nearly month-long search by authorities, friends and family.
Zamlen disappeared after leaving a house party in early April. He was a type-1 diabetic and had been drinking that night, which many speculated may have been a factor in his disappearance.
Zamlen’s autopsy report will not be released to the public, the statement said, citing state information laws.
