The University of Minnesota Solar Decathlon team placed fifth out of 19 international teams in the United States Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Friday.
The team built a solar-powered house that included plumbing, appliances and entertainment systems.
This was the first year the team has competed in the biennial contest, which is held in Washington D.C.
Out of 10 grading categories, the Solar Decathlon team placed first in engineering and lighting design while rounding out the top three in appliances and home entertainment.
Team Germany placed first overall, followed by Illinois and Team California, respectively.
The houses will be open for tours throughout the weekend.
