Culture to Consume
WATCH THIS: Based on a book written by the ingenious children’s author Roald Dahl and adapted to the screen by the quirky, beloved Wes Anderson, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” also boasts George Clooney and Meryl Streep . “Robot Chicken ” fans will also appreciate the stop-action animation.
READ THIS: Thomas (Ruggles) Pynchon, one of the most convoluted and renowned writers of our time, has made a drastic genre switch with “Inherent Vice.” The neon cover of this greasy mystery thriller proves how the only marketing scheme this author needs is his name in big letters.
LISTEN TO THIS: It’s a big week for music. Rihanna’s back with “Rated R,” while Shakira’s “She Wolf” and Lady Gaga’s “Fame Monster” will surely top the charts. Meanwhile, Idols grads Susan Boyle and Adam Lambert’s debuts hit the shelves.
EAT THIS: At about $5 a container for fresh salsa, it’s much cheaper (and more delicious) to make your own. Here’s my recipe:
-10 Cherry tomatoes
-1 bell pepper
-2 cloves garlic
-A spoonful of ginger
-1/2 pear
-Dash lime juice, vinegar
-1/3 chili pepper
DRINK THIS: We live in a beer town — why else would we have a Grain Belt sign above our most impressive bridge? This week, try local brewer Summit’s latest release, 90/ - Scottish Style Ale, whose secret ingredient is imported Scottish heather.
CLICK THIS: Wired magazine’s How-To Wiki has an article about making an independent movie on a low budget. After your turkey binge, you might as well see if you’re the next Michel Gondry .
