Frozen yogurt shop opens in Dinkytown

Fru-lala, a health conscious frozen yogurt shop, opens Friday in Dinkytown.

The shop, at 13th Avenue and 4th Street Southeast, was started by two University of Minnesota alumni. Sisters Gloria and Susan Kang, who graduated in 2008 with psychology degrees, are owners of the shop.

“We’ve been around the U a lot,” Gloria Kang said, adding she and her sister thought the campus was a good place for the shop because “students are more open to new ideas.”

The shop offers assorted frozen yogurt flavors with fruit, cereal and other toppings available.

“Everything went as planned,” Gloria Kang said of the preparation. With no snags or setbacks, the store is opening on its originally planned first day of business.

So far, employees are mostly University students and Gloria Kang said more students will likely be hired.
