A 19-year-old man unaffiliated with the University of Minnesota was robbed early Friday morning near the West Bank campus.
At about 12:30 a.m., a group of five black males described as being between the ages of 18 and 21 exited a dark colored SUV near Cedar Avenue S and 3rd Street S. They accosted the victim, speaking with Somali accents, and forced him to give them his wallet and cell phone, according to a University Police Public Safety Alert.
One of the suspects gave the impression that he was carrying a gun, and another said, "You wanna die right here? Give me everything in your pockets," according to the police report.
The suspects then returned to their car, which had Minnesota license plates, and fled south on Cedar Avenue. They did not match the descriptions of the suspects in the Jan. 25 robberies and shooting.
The location of the crime is near the Carlson School of Management and the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.
