The idea of assigning the same rights of political action to corporations that living people have is a terrible one. A major reason corporations were created was to shield individual company officers from financial liability. Over the years, the financial power of the corporations has dwarfed the individual and made people chattel to corporate interests. There should be a clear division between corporations and government, similar to church and state, except that the division must be much stronger and well enforced. Corporations are a major threat to democracy and their ability to influence the political process must be curtailed not expanded. Corporations are not people. Les Phillips, Daily reader
