Hang on to that spare change for a slice.
Mesa Pizza in Dinkytown raised its prices Friday. A slice of the coveted pizza rose from $3 to $3.25. The hike in price was fueled by various factors, manager Gallo Suave said.
The rising cost of cheese, chicken and flour was among the list posted on a wrinkly notice at the counter. Other motives were wage increases for employees and managers and the ability for the restaurant to maintain benefit plans for certain employees.
Suave admitted that the adjustment may take some getting used to.
"We had to get a ton of quarters from the bank," Suave said, "but so far, so good. It’s mostly about the people adjusting."
Some customers aren’t too concerned about the rise in price.
"I don’t really care," Sarah Hucovski said between bites. "It’s just a quarter."
This reaction was typical during another busy weekend at Mesa, employees said.
