Fraternity assault case closes without charges

MPD did not find sufficient evidence to support the recent allegations.

The Minneapolis Police Department has submitted no charges following its investigation of an alleged sexual assault at Chi Psi fraternity, MPD Sgt. Bill Palmer said.

“At this point there is not sufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution in this case,” Palmer said.

The case is now closed, Palmer said.

“We thoroughly investigated this case,” he said, adding that investigators spoke to people from inside and outside the fraternity, as well as the man and woman involved.

The man was not affiliated with the fraternity.

The female University of Minnesota student alleged she was sexually assaulted at the fraternity, at 1515 University Ave. S.E., early in the morning Sept. 26.

This case was just one in a series of allegations of sexual assaults in the past month, including two reported to have occurred at Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) and Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI).
