While the women’s swimming and diving team prepares to defend its perfect 3-0 record, the men are getting ready to open their season — hosting Wisconsin during a dual meet Friday.
Both teams will compete against the border-rival, whom they’ve beat in 23-straight dual meets, during the team’s Pack the Pool event at the University’s Aquatic Center.
The women opened their season Oct. 8, notching road wins over Michigan and Michigan State while grabbing a home win over Iowa State.
Two Gophers have already been recognized for their performances this season. Senior Jillian Tyler received Big Ten Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 11 while freshman Margaret Keefer was named Big Ten Diver of the Week on Oct. 18.
After a third-place finish in the Big Ten last year, the Gophers return 12 seniors to the men’s squad this season, something men’s swimming and diving associate head coach Bill Tramel said will be a huge contribution to the squad this season.
“All these guys are really good leaders in the pool and in the locker room,” Tramel said. “We’re really looking for the seniors to lead this group of guys to their final hurrah and hopefully that will spring board us onto future success.”
