Reports: Women's golf coach Brenny resigns after two months

Gophers women’s golf coach Katie Brenny has resigned after just two months on the job, according to reports by the Associated Press and Golfweek Magazine. Though the Golfweek report says both Brenny and a University spokesman confirmed her resignation, team spokesman Matt Slieter said he would not comment. A former Minnesota high school state champion, Brenny had no college coaching experience when new director of golf John Harris hired her as associate women’s head coach in September. She did instruct as an assistant club professional at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. Brenny played at Wake Forest and played on the Duramed Futures Tour and the Women’s Canadian Tour before joining the Gophers. She writes a column for Florida Golf Central Magazine. Harris took over in July for Brad James, who led the men’s program to a national championship in 2002, and promptly had to fill the head coaching positions for both the men’s and women’s team. Former women’s associate head coach Krissy Wessinger left the school in late July to start a women’s golf program at St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul. In our tournaments thus far, the women’s team placed no worse than eighth and shattered the program’s 54-hole tournament team-scoring record. Brenny did not accompany the team to any of their tournaments, according to the Golfweek report.
