-Saturday will mark the 10th time the Bison and Gophers have met. Minnesota has won eight of the nine previous meetings.
NDSU has played Big Ten teams 15 times. The Bison victory over the Gophers in 2007 is their lone win over a Big Ten opponent.
-NDSU has a 4-3 record against Football Championship Subdivison teams since 2006. The Bison defeated Kansas, 6-3, in last year’s season opener.
-Minnesota’s last FCS opponent, South Dakota, defeated the Gophers 41-38 on Sept. 11, 2010, at TCF Bank Stadium.
-Minnesota’s athletic department is expecting a sold-out crowd at Saturday night’s game. It’s the only night game on the Gophers schedule so far. However, six of the team’s conference games do not yet have a scheduled start time.
-Three thousand tickets have been allotted to Bison fans, but NDSU associate athletic director Troy Goergen said it wouldn’t be a big surprise if 20,000 Bison supporters were at the game. An estimated 30,000 were at the team’s 2007 meeting in the Metrodome.
-According to NDSU head coach Craig Bohl, no player on his roster was offered a scholarship from a Big Ten program. About half of the players on the roster are from Minnesota
Bohl said: “You’ve got a bunch of small-town guys from small Minnesota communities … this is an important game for us. It’s a great thing for NDSU. It’s a great thing for the community. We will have exposure all across the country.”
