This project was generously sponsored by the Minnesota Daily Alumni Association. Without their contribution and support, this massive undertaking would not have been possible. Any comments, questions or suggestions regarding this archive should be sent to online@mndaily.com.
This archive was started in 2000 by scanning every page of every issue since the Daily's first issue. The thousands of TIFF files were then merged into multi-page TIFFs and uploaded to the Daily's web server. Then the large TIFF files were converted to PDFs, to make them more web-friendly.
It was the Daily's original goal to make these archives searchable, but unfortunately current OCR technology recognizes only 5% of the words. Short of manually retyping the 125,000+ articles, the archives will have to wait to be searchable until the technology improves.
Until that time, enjoy! You'll find this archive an accurate timecapsule capturing the changes and growth of the Minnesota Daily and the University of Minnesota.
