Man stabbed on Como Ave, suspect found naked

The stabbing occurred at a residence, and the victim fled to a Metro Transit bus.

A man was stabbed near the intersection of 15th Avenue and Como Avenue Southeast, early Monday morning, Minneapolis police said.

The 37-year-old man from Isanti, Minn., was found by officers on an empty-bus seat at approximately 5 a.m., Minneapolis police Sgt. Steve McCarty said. He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. No other information was given on the status of the victim.

The stabbing occurred at a residence, and the victim fled to the bus, McCarty said.

The suspect, a 36-year-old Minneapolis man, was found near the scene naked, police said. He was arrested shortly afterward on suspicion of assault with a dangerous weapon.

McCarty said alcohol or drugs might have been a factor in the assault.

Tim Kvernen, 32, said he was lying in bed when he heard ranting and yelling outside of his open window a little before 5 a.m.

Though he did not see anything, he said he heard someone yell, “I call on the power of night” and multiple statements about “evil” but assumed it was a drunk or homeless person outside.

After being questioned by police, Kvernen later discovered the victim was found on a bus at a stop near his home, and the voice might have belonged to the suspect.

Kvernen said he heard a Metro Transit bus parked outside throughout the entire incident.

The suspect was also taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for observation. He is in “satisfactory condition,” according to Hennepin County Medical Center spokeswoman Christine Hill.
