Friday: The Art of Vodka
Alcohol can be art too, apparently. This second-annual celebration will bring in bartenders and spirits from local breweries so you can enjoy sips while appreciating artwork. While the price is a little steep, just think of it as another expensive bar tab to celebrate the end of the semester.
Where: The Museum of Russian Art, 5500 Stevens Ave., Minneapolis
When: 6 - 9 p.m.
Cost: $50 - $65, 21+
Saturday: MPR Open House
Are you still arguing against #fakenews? Now is your chance to see where completely legitimate magic happens. With tours, meet-and-greets and “mocktails” in MPR’s downtown St. Paul building, the open house should be a quality time — no subscription needed.
Where: Minnesota Public Radio
480 Cedar St., Saint Paul
When: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Sunday: Secondhand Hounds at Up-Down
Dogs, arcade games and charity. Name a more iconic trio — I’ll wait. Alongside the beer and pizza available, all proceeds from Up-Down’s 25-cent games will go to Secondhand Hounds — a local animal rescue. SHH at Up-Down is set to be a great day for all.
Where: Up-Down Minneapolis
3012 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis
When: 1 - 5 p.m.
CULTURE TO CONSUME
Eat this: Tacos
What else would you do on Cinco de Mayo? “Nothing” is the correct answer. With so many killer taco spots in the Twin Cities, you can’t go wrong. Lago Tacos, Bar Luchador and World Street Kitchen are all waiting for you to enjoy what they have to offer. I guess Chipotle will work if you’re in a crunch.
Watch this: Rugrats
The series that first aired 26 years ago is a quality way to reflect on life, and the end of a semester is the perfect time to do that. Reacquaint yourself with Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil, Angelica, Dil and Reptar, although you might identify more with Stu and his toy business at this point.
Indulge in this: A nap
Think about all of the all-nighters, the countless cups of coffee and the papers you’ve written — you’ve earned this. Whether it’s in your bed, on a couch, in a classroom or a Coffman chair, refresh and take some time to reward yourself. Naps are good for the brain and the soul.
