Coming into Friday's game against Ohio State, the Gophers had a 10-0 road record. At the end of the second period, it looked like Minnesota was going to add another win.
The Gophers (17-7-2, 10-5-2 WCHA) were unable to keep their perfect road record Friday night, losing to Ohio State (16-5-4, 9-2-4-3 WCHA) 3-2 in Columbus, Ohio.
Minnesota carried a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period before conceding two goals in the final frame. The Buckeye’s held on after that.
No. 7 Ohio State got the game-tying goal from forward Charly Dahlquist. The game-winner came from Liz Schepers with four minutes left to play in the game. The No. 5 Gophers pulled their goalie and had many chances at the end of the game, but could not find the net.
Minnesota got scoring contributions from Alex Woken and Grace Zumwinkle in the second period. Woken scored for the Gophers five minutes into the period on a power play. Four players assisted on the goal. Shortly after that, Zumwinkle scored her 12th goal of the year to get Minnesota the lead heading into the third period. Sidney Peters ended the game with 35 saves.
The Buckeye’s hopped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period. Ohio State's Emma Maltais’ shot ended up being the lone goal in the period. That was Maltais’ 11th goal of the season.
