The 55th annual Uptown Art Fair is just around the corner, and A&E is here to make sure you make the most of your weekend.

The art will, of course, bring Minnesotans from every lake and county with mediums spanning painting, woodwork, 3D mixed-media, jewelry and more.

But what makes this festival a must-see is the array of activities. From plating competitions to star-studded stages, the Uptown Art Fair is unparalleled.

Here’s what you need to know for August 3-5.

What to see:

More than 350 artists will have their work on display, each more eye-catching than the last.

Brendan Kramp, a graduate of the University of Minnesota’s creative writing master’s program, will be displaying a variety of Minnesota-inspired oil paintings. One of his series features Minnesotan coffee shops.

Another University graduate, Kimberly Tschida Petters, will have her paintings at the fair. With a degree in painting, Petters has since started her own print shop, Vandalia Street Press.

Whether you’re looking for new home decor, to do some networking or stare in awe at the talents of others — you’ll be in good company.

What to do:

We know you came for the art, but what makes this fair unlike any other is its diversity in activities.

The GoMN stage will be graced with a different performer each hour throughout the afternoons. If your style is alternative rock, hip-hop, opera/soul or, say, the Eden Prairie high school band — you’re in luck.

If you’re one of the more competitive types, the Culinary Arts Competition will be a sweet treat. Chefs are paired with local artists to create a dish and work of art — in 30 minutes. From displaying the meal to actually cooking it, there’s something for everyone.

What to eat

Whether you’re planning to be in Uptown in the morning, afternoon or evening, there will be a variety of cuisines to choose from.

In the early hours, stop by Go Bananas, Baja Smoothies or Tom Thumb Donuts. Later in the day you have your pick of the litter with Dog Park Gourmet Hot Dogs, Rainbow Chinese Restaurant, The Fabled Rooster, R Taco and more.

For those with a sweet tooth, options range from Ben and Jerry’s to The Cookie Store and Thelma’s.

Bon appetit.

What to wear

Whether you want to sport your newest overalls, yellow rain jacket you paid too much for or your go-to track shorts, you’ll be in keeping with the weather.

If you want to make a statement add a feisty fanny pack, chic bomber jacket or a colorful umbrella — just in case.

What to bring:

Regardless of how prepared you are, this festival will be a blast. But it can’t hurt to bring sun block, cute new shades and a little spending money.

Oh, and your friends. But that probably goes without saying.
