Willey Hall evacuated for bomb threat
Classes will resume at 12:45 p.m.
The University received a bomb threat for Willey Hall today, according to a University alert text message received at 11:30 a.m.
Classes were temporarily canceled and police conducted a search of the building.
The search found no suspicious items, according to a University emergency text message, and afternoon classes will resume at 12:45 p.m.
UMPD Deputy Police Chief Steve Johnson said the threat was made from a Minneapolis gas station payphone at 10:27 a.m.
UMPD Sergeant Erik Stenemann said the officers used a canine unit to search the building.
"This year's been a banner year for bomb threats," he said. "We've had a lot of them."
First-year marketing student Betsy Vose said she arrived for class in Willey Hall to find the building evacuated because of the bomb threat. Vose said although this is the first time she has been directly affected by a bomb threat, she frequently hears about them.
"It seems like we always have bomb threats," Vose said. "They're hard to take seriously, but you want to be safe."
The text message refers students to the University Web site for updates.
This is the third bomb threat on campus this semester.
