The clouds over Union Park looked to signal yet another weather delay in the festivities. Fortunately, there was no rain and things began and ended smoothly.

Pitchfork Music Festival: Day 1

Despite a storm that was expected to delay the festival, things at day one of Pitchfork Music Festival went off without a hitch. Or at the very least, things started on time.

Peaches 'n' cake

Quick disclaimer: I think I love peaches a little too much. When I was a kid, I loved rubbing the pit on asphalt until it transformed into a ring. I’ve always loved the fruit. The emoji is everything.

My idea of fun: WTF

I don’t necessarily enjoy Marc Maron’s comedy. I’ve seen most of his show too and it’s basically the RC Cola of self-centered stand-up comedian slice of life fare. Most people I know tend to agree with me.

My idea of fun: trash TV

Trashy television shows aren’t exactly well-defined. Some people might think about reality shows or “cooking” shows (some are just Guy Fieri eating across the Eastern seaboard). What usually comes to mind for me are shows that aren’t really completely awful. Yes, they feature acting that will make you cringe and yes, the plots are thin and uninspired.

My idea of fun: punk exceptionalism

Typically, people discuss punk rock in two ways: as a genre of music or as some sort of social movement. The reality is that it’s probably somewhere in between. Punk rock is more or less about attitude. Think the arrogance of the rock star persona and the complete denunciation of anything and everything “mainstream”. Differentiating what is and is not punk rock is hard, so I’m going to help.
