Apple Valley man allegedly drives Zamboni while drunk, gets third DWI

An Apple Valley man who allegedly drove a Zamboni while drunk in January had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.32, according to charges filed this week.

Joel Bruss, 34, faces four charges, three gross misdemeanors and one misdemeanor, of driving while impaired during the Jan. 30 incident, the Pioneer Press said.

Parents at Hayes Arena in Appple Valley called police to report Bruss was driving a Zamboni erratically.  When police arrived, Bruss reportedly had the Zamboni stuck half on the ice and half off the ice, the article said.

Bruss admitted to drinking in his home before coming to work and that he had driven to work in his personal vehicle.

According to the complaint, Bruss had a hard time keeping his balance and slurred his speech, making it difficult to understand.  He had been trying to resurface the ice twice, missing spots and crashing the Zamboni into the boards of the rink.

Apple Valley parks and recreation director Randy Johnson said in the article there was no damage to the arena.

According to court records, Bruss was convicted of driving while intoxicated once in 2002 and twice in 1999.
