Minneapolis Public High School closes after bomb threat

The Minneapolis Public Schools district canceled school Wednesday at Southwest High School after receiving a bomb threat Tuesday evening.

“The safety of students and staff is our priority, which is why we took deliberate and appropriate action to cancel school,” according to a press release  issued by the district.

Families were notified Tuesday night by an automated telephone call from the school’s Principal Bill Smith, the Star Tribune reported. The Minneapolis Police Department conducted a walk-through of the building Wednesday morning. The district said no unsafe materials were found.

“We know today’s closure may have posed an inconvenience to some families, however we make decisions with the safety and security of our students and families in mind,” the release stated.

All other schools in the district remained open Wednesday, according to KSTP. The school will reopen Thursday.
