University of Minnesota alum allowed to travel after arrest in Thailand

By Katie BogensbergerA former University of Minnesota student who was detained in Thailand has been given permission to leave the country until a Sept. 17 bail renewal hearing, the Star Tribune reported Tuesday.Anthony Kwan was arrested in a Bangkok airport Aug. 23 for possession of body armor. Kwan was covering a recent bombing in the city when he was arrested.

Executive Associate Athletics Director Ellis takes leave of absence.

Nearly one month following Norwood Teague's resignation, top assistant Mike Ellis is taking a leave of absence.Ellis has been the subject of five anonymous reports sent to the University since Aug. 7, the day of Teague's resignation. Ellis was asked by the University to take voluntary time off, and he agreed, while independent investigators look into the complaints.

More women come forward after Teague resignation

More women have come forward with sexual harassment allegations against former University of Minnesota Athletic Director Norwood Teague, MPR News reported.University President Eric Kaler told MPR News that “less than five” women have come forward since Teague resigned earlier this month after an intoxicated Teague sexually harassed two University employees.

University announces legal counsel for Teague investigation

Following the resignation of former athletics director Norwood Teague August 7 due to two complaints of sexual harassment, the University of Minnesota announced Friday it has hired legal counsel to conduct an independent investigation of the school.Karen G. Schanfield of the law firm Fredrikson & Byron P.A. has been retained and will work with her partner Joseph T. Dixon, a former U.S. attorney.

Coffman Union closed for ‘security threat’ Monday

University of Minnesota officials closed Coffman Union on Monday morning to “investigate a security threat,” according to a text message alert sent at about 4:30 a.m. The University’s Twitter account relayed a similar message at about 2:45 a.m.
