Michigan’s Trey Burke to stay for sophomore season

Michigan Wolverines starting point guard Trey Burke will return for his sophomore season after serious contemplations to declare for the NBA draft, ESPN reported.

The Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year, Burke started every game except one his freshman season, leading Michigan in scoring (14.8 per game) and assists (4.6 per game). Burke broke the school's record for assists by a freshman with 156, previously set in the 1984-85 season.

The Wolverines will return four starters – two leading scorers in Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. – in 2012-13 after earning a share of the Big Ten's regular-season title this past season.

Michigan made the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament, losing to Ohio State, and made the NCAA tournament as a No. 4 seed, where it lost to No. 13 seed Ohio in the first round.

Burke had 30- and 27-point games against the Gophers. Both were the highest scored by a freshman in the Big Ten last season. His 30-point performance set a Big Ten tournament record for a freshman when the Wolverines beat Minnesota 73-69 in the quarterfinals.
