Bristedt Named to Sweden’s Preliminary World Junior Roster

A showdown between Gophers may be looming.

Freshman forward Leon Bristedt was named to Sweden's preliminary camp roster Monday morning, for the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. Bristedt will compete for a spot on the team, just as teammates Hudson Fasching and Ryan Collins will compete for spots on the U.S. team.

If the Gophers are able to place a player on each team, the teammates will face off in a pre-tournament game between the U.S. and Sweden on Dec. 23 in Ontario.

Bristedt previously competed at the 2013 IIHF U-18 World Championship for Sweden, with three goals and an assist in five games. Since coming to the U.S. and joining the Gophers, Bristedt has tallied two goals and two assits in 12 games.

The Gophers are beginning a month long break from the ice, but rather than returning home Bristedt hopes of be skating for his home country. Bristedt told the Minnesota Daily in an interview in November that his plan was to make the team.

"That's my goal right now," Bristedt said. "If I don't make the team, I'll take it from there."

The 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship will begin on Dec. 26 with the goal medal game being played on Jan. 5.
