Gophers land four-star safety from Michigan

With National Signing Day less than a week away, Jerry Kill and the Gophers have just received a commitment from their biggest recruit in the class of 2015 thus far.

Two days ago, safety Dior Johnson was a verbally committed member of Wake Forest’s recruiting class. Now, as of Wednesday night, Johnson has jumped aboard Kill’s ship.

He announced the decision via Twitter after Kill visited Johnson’s home in Southfield, Mich.

“Had a great in home visit with Coach Kill. No doubt where I want to play, I’m committing to the U of Minnesota,” Johnson tweeted.

According to Rivals.com, the 6-2, 195-pound Johnson is a four-star recruit who also had offers on the table from Illinois and Indiana.

Johnson will be joining high school teammate Ray Buford as members of the 2015 Gophers recruiting class. Buford committed back in December.

Including Johnson’s commitment, the Gophers now stand at 23 commits for this year’s recruiting class.

Minnesota has been busy on the recruiting trail lately, receiving commitments from three-star tight end Bryce Witham, two-star defensive end Mose Hall and three-star wide receivers Rashad Still and Hunter Register within the last week.

Minnesota’s entire 2015 recruiting class will be announced next Wednesday, February 4. This will be Kill’s fifth recruiting class as head coach of the Gophers.
