Following two conference wins last week, the Minnesota volleyball team continues to rise in American Volleyball Coaches Association and National Collegiate Athletic Association rankings.
Last Wednesday the No. 16 Gophers swept Northwestern in their home conference opener 3-0. On Saturday during their Dig Pink game against No. 7 Illinois, Minnesota delivered an upset to the Illini, winning in an extra fifth set.
Following the big performance, in the weekly coaches poll, the AVCA ranked Minnesota No. 11, a five-spot improvement from being No. 16 the previous week.
This is Minnesota’s highest ranking in the AVCA poll since being 10th back in 2013.
Additionally, in the NCAA’s first College Volleyball Ratings Percentage Index poll, Minnesota earned the 10th spot.
RPI rankings are cumulated based on a team’s strength of schedule and how well they perform within that schedule.
The Gophers look to extend their 11-3 record this weekend with two conference match-ups on the road against Maryland and Rutgers on Friday and Sunday.
