Gophers head coach Marlene Stollings was in a staff meeting on Tuesday when she received anxious knock on the door.

It was senior guard Rachel Banham, who received recognition from a special source after tying the NCAA record for points in a game with 60 Sunday against Northwestern.

“She’s like, ‘Kobe, Kobe, I just got a tweet from Kobe, and it changed my life. This is the best day of my life,’” Stollings said.

NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, Banham’s favorite player, quoted a tweet from the Big Ten Network on Tuesday to acknowledge Banham’s accomplishment.

“Congrats on the 60 @rachelbanham15 From what I’ve seen, I don’t think it will be the last time you hit that mark,” Bryant wrote.

And with less than 140 characters, Banham’s day was made.

“I was literally shaking. I felt like I was going to start crying, I was so happy. I didn’t even know what to say,” Banham said.  “I was freaking out and I couldn’t even tweet back right away because I didn’t want to say anything dumb and be embarrassing.”
