Hip-hop in the Twin Cities isn't merely just another music genre. It's practically an institution. But what is now a thriving artistic community was once nothing more than just a few high school kids trying to keep busy during the weekend. And Twin Cities rap veteran Zach Combs, better known as Big Zach, has been there from the very beginning. Tonight he'll be releasing his book "“Headspins, Headshots & History: Growing Up in Twin Cities Hip-Hop" – a first-person account of life in South Minneapolis and the humble beginnings of the Rhymesayers empire.
Despite his pioneer status, Combs is one of the more under-the-radar emcees of the scene but he's worked and kicked it with the very best of them, penning stories about local vanguards like Atmosphere, Doomtree, Eyedea and Heiruspecs. It's surely a treat for any local hip-hop enthusiasts as well as more casual listeners.
