Poll: Pawlenty is trailing

Yes, it’s early to be talking about the next presidential race, but for all you campaign junkies out there…

A recent CNN poll found that Gov. Tim Pawlenty is way behind other big-name republicans expected to run for president in 2012.

According to the poll, out of the 1,083 adult Americans questioned, 5 percent said they would back Pawlenty with one in 10 saying they would support someone else. Pawlenty has been traveling the country discussing policy and trying to make a name for himself nationally. He has already said he will not run for governor next election.

But Pawlenty wasn’t the only one who didn’t fare well in CNN’s poll. Seventy-one percent of those questioned said former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin wasn’t qualified enough to be president. Among republicans, 52 percent said she’s qualified and 47 percent did not.

At this point, 32 percent of republicans, say they would be most likely to support former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in a hypothetical battle for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.

"Huckabee appears to have more support among Republicans than Palin and her unfavorable rating among all Americans is twice as high as Huckabee’s," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said in the story. "Palin may attract a lot of attention but the GOP may be looking elsewhere for their frontrunner."
