Lawyer Jacob Frey is planning to run against Diane Hofstede for Minneapolis City Council this fall in the third ward, the Star Tribune reported.
The third ward includes the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood and Dinkytown area, encompassing University of Minnesota students living in the area.
Redistricting has shifted ward lines, potentially altering the race, the Star Tribune reported.
Hofstede, 65, has been in office for six and one-half years, the Star Tribune reported. Frey ran in 2011 for the Senate District 59 seat, previously occupied by Larry Pogemiller, according to Politics in Minnesota.
Frey ranked as high as 10th on the list of U.S. marathoners in 2007, while a law student at Villanova, logging 150-mile weeks, the Star Tribune reported.
