The use of 'illegal immigrant' vs. 'undocumented immigrant'

I have received multiple e-mails from professors, activists and others alike from campus to as far away as California in response to a recent story "U students experience flawed immigration system" by Alex Robinson, which was published in Friday's Daily.

For clarification purposes, the Daily made a decision to change from "illegal immigrants" to "undocumented immigrants" in November 2006 to  The The recent story, however, used the term illegal, which is Associated Press style for referencing undocumented immigrants. The style reference in the story has since been updated.
