The University of Minnesota selected FieldTurf for installation at the TCF Bank Stadium, Athletics Director Joel Maturi and FieldTurf CEO Joe Fields announced today, according to a press release on PRWeb.
"When we selected the field for TCF Bank Stadium, our goal was to install the best possible playing surface for our student-athletes," Maturi said. "Our players tested several options and the overwhelming consensus was that FieldTurf was the best."
FieldTurf is the same grass the Gophers played on at the Metrodome and is used at more than 60 NCAA universities for their home games.
FieldTurf is the global market leader in terms of synthetic sports fields with over 3,000 fields installed, the release states.

Great, maybe they'll put a
Great, maybe they'll put a roof over the stadium next.
Horrible Choice
The whole point of an outdoor stadium is to play football outside, on grass, like the game is supposed to be played. Hopefully, the team switches over to grass in a few years. I know field turf is popular, but wasn't one of the complaints (among many) about the Dome that the turf was harder on players and led to more injuries?
Also, can the Vikings move in too? I'd love to see pro Football back outside in Minnesota. I've only heard about it.
Astro is old, Field is new
AstroTurf (like in the Dome) is unforgiving. FieldTurf is a much newer technology and plays a lot like real grass, but without any of the injury-producing divots and lumps. I'd still like to see an old-fashioned, muddy rain game, though. You can't see that on turf.
Artificial Grass for Playgrounds
Jon Stromberg : FieldTurf playground synthetic grass is engineered to look and feel like natural grass while providing superior protection against falls, cuts, and abrasions. Many sports organizations are installing this type of turf in their playground. Not only is a FieldTurf playground safer and more fun than traditional solutions, it’s also easier to maintain. With FieldTurf, complicated maintenance issues are virtually eliminated.
