Just in time for travelers to hit the road for the July 4th holiday weekend, a new interactive Web site was launched to help road-trippers stay away from dangerous traffic zones.
The site, saferoadmaps.org, was created by transportation experts from the University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies, and includes an online map that identifies 100 rural and 100 urban traffic "hot zones," or areas that have experienced the most fatalities over the last five years.
Users can also enter any city, zip code or street address to learn about all of the traffic deaths that have occurred in the past five years and what factors played a role: seat belts, drinking or speeding.
