Thousands of possible early human settlements have been discovered using computers and satellite images, the BBC reported.
About 9,000 new sites were found in Syria by scanning satellite photos for soil discoloration. Archaeologists hope to test the method further by researching land in Iraq’s Kurdish provinces.
Aerial archaeologists have also employed the use of Google Earth and Bing to find ancient sites in Europe and the Middle East.
