First Spring Jam band announced

University of Minnesota Student Unions and Activities announced Wednesday The Head and the Heart will be the first band to perform at spring jam.

The Seattle-based indie folk-pop band will perform at Coffman Memorial Union's Front Plaza from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19.

The Head and the Heart is made up of Josiah Johnson, Jonathan Russel, Kenny Hensley, Charity Rose Thielen, Tyler Williams and Chris Zasche.  The band was born after the members made their way to the Emerald City and performed during an open mic night at Conor Byrne in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood.

The group released its first album in January 2010.  Last November, the group released an iTunes session.  You can preview some of the band's latest music at their website.

Currently on tour, the band will perform at the University between shows in Indio, California.
