Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen apologizes for pro-Castro comments

Florida Marlins baseball manager Ozzie Guillen is known for his often outlandish comments, but he made some comments to Time magazine recently that angered the Cuban community, CNN reported. The Marlins have suspended Guillen for the next five games.

In the article, Guillen said, "I love Fidel Castro." The comment, Guillen said in a press conference on Tuesday, was originally said in Spanish and his true meaning got lost in translation.

Protesters outside of the Marlins stadium in Miami were furious and vocal, The Miami Herald reported.

"It’s so outrageous," said Ninoska Pérez Castellón, a local radio host, "they have to start by buying a new brain for Guillen because every time he opens his mouth, he offends somebody."

Along with apologizing profusely in the press conference, Guillen pledged his support of the Cuban community in Miami and said he would never make such comments again.

"You don't have this job if you're dumb," Guillen said. "If I don't learn from this, I will call myself dumb."
