Mall of America is getting some fresh faces, including the first Doc Martens retail store in Minnesota.
As the mall takes a one-year break from its four-year renovation plan, nine businesses will open this summer, the Pioneer Press said.
Dr. Martens footwear will open its first corporate-owned location in Minnesota and second in the Midwest (behind Chicago) next month. It will be located on Level One near the Nordstrom court, said Bridget Jewell, a Mall of America spokeswoman.
Australian retailer Cotton On is opening two new stores. The first will be a clothing store called Cotton On while the second, called Typo, will sell stationery, cards and quirky gifts, the Press said.
Surf and skate clothing retailer Tilly's will open its first Minnesota location in June, Jewell said. It will be located on Level Two North.
Masu Sushi & Robata, a popular Japanese restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis, is expanding in June to a second location on Level Three South, the area Jewell says is called "Restaurant Row."
ChaTime, a Taiwanese bubble tea company, has opened its third U.S. location at the mall on Level Three South, the Press said. A new Quiznos has also opened in the Level Three North food court.
Other retailers are eyeing new locations or new formats, partly due to construciton, Jewell said.
Ann Taylor will unveil its new concept store in May, in the same space as a previous store. Famous Footwear has been relocated to Level Three West, with a grand reopening event planned for this weekend.
Brighton Collectables is also in a reconfigured space after making room for a new skyway bridge to the Radisson Blu hotel under construction.
Jewell said the skyway will be completed in July and the hotel will open next spring.
In addition to the skyway, mall officials are focused on renovating the vacant Bloomingdale's department store space and the adjacent courtyard, the Press said.
Mall of America is the most-visited attraction in America, drawing more than 42 million visitors a year.
