University of Minnesota Parking and Transportation Services has won a 2012 Commuter Choice Award.

The annual award is sponsored by Metro Transit to recognize organizations, individuals and employers who promote alternative transportation options.

PTS won the Employer of the Year recognition on Wednesday, according to a news release.

Many of the department’s recent initiatives have focused on promoting bicycle use on campus.

“Our new bike center and Zap program are our latest commitments to bicycle commuters and they won't be our last,” Bob Baker, PTS executive director, said in a news release.

Other recent developments include implementing Zipcar and Zimride services and a GPS bus tracking system, which was covered in a Minnesota Daily article.
