UMN students, staff and faculty could get free Green Line rides on campus

University of Minnesota Twin Cities students and employees will get unlimited rides on the Green Line light rail's three University of Minnesota stations with a proposed transit pass, starting this fall.

The Campus Zone Pass would provide free, unlimited rides seven days a week between West Bank Station, East Bank Station and Stadium Village over the 2014-2015 academic year. .

The pass would be available from August 25 through August 30 of  next year, if the program is approved by the Metropolitan Council on July 23.

The University of Minnesota would subsidize the Campus Zone Pass at a cost of $16 per pass, said Jacqueline Brudlos, communications manager for University Parking and Transportation Services.

Students will be able to pick up passes starting August 25 from three locations: Coffman Union, the St. Paul Student Center and the Parking and Transportation Services offices on Washington Avenue Southeast.

The University has been selling the U-Pass since 1999, which allows students unlimited rides on any bus or light rail for $100 a semester.
