City begins process to accept $2.89 million grant

At Monday’s meeting of the Health, Environment, and Community Engagement Committee, city officials voted to accept a $2.89 million dollar grant on behalf of the City of Minneapolis.

The Healthy Living Grant, meant to be used by the City to promote healthy choices through funding of local clinics and other initiatives, will face a final vote on March 20’s full City Council meeting.

Funding for the grant will come from the Minnesota Department of Health, obtained from federal funding by the Center for Disease Control, according to city documents.

These funds are intended to aid initiatives to counter the spread of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke in the Minneapolis area, the documents said.

Ward 2 City Councilman Cam Gordon said he was almost certain that the grant would recieve the full city council approval.
