Hennepin County Sherrif Rich Stanek told that she was holding a knife during her confrontation with officers.
Stanek’s office is investigating the events surrounding the shooting, according to the Star Tribune.
Harris’ mothers said Harris was unarmed at the time she was shot, according to a report from Channel 5 Eyewitness News[BF3] .
“The police’s attempts to vilify Tania and immediately justify their unnecessary violence towards her in the media reflects a larger pattern in which black victims of police shootings around the country have been demonized,” the statement reads.
The statement calls for government officials to investigate the event, in order to hold the officer accountable.
