Minnesota doctor pleads guilty to fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs

A 43-year-old doctor from Pelican Rapids pleaded guilty on Wednesday morning for stealing prescription drugs.

According to WCCO, Blair Nelson pleaded guilty to writing and filling fraudulent prescriptions.

“U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger said 43-year-old Blair A. Nelson obtained Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and other prescription drugs. He pleaded guilty to controlled substance fraud in U.S. District Court in St. Paul,” reports KSTP.

Nelson’s fraudulent prescription writing began in May of 2013. According to ABC 6 News, “The prescriptions were written so that they could be filled in the names of members of his family and friends. After issuing the prescriptions, he picked up the drugs for his own use.”

Furthermore, Nelson attempted to obtain at least 1,730 prescription pills from Target, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens, KSTP reported.

Although Minnesota suspended Nelson’s medical license, he still continued to write the prescriptions.
