Black Greeks-Stepping out of our confines
"True Weekend warriors"

This weekend, (1)The Hop-Team attended 4 step shows in 3 days. The first was in a school formerly known to many as Mankato State University, and now known as Minnesota State University Mankato. Wheww, Glad that's out of the way... Mankato held the Pan-African Conference this weekend in their truly awe inspiring Centennial Student Union, and I had a pleasure of meeting students from all over These United States including Louisiana and Tennessee, as well as speakers and vendors directly from Africa.  Our Hop-Team went on stage and represented for the University of Minnesota in an enthusiastic show which was received with great fanfare. After the show, we greeted folks, mingled a little, had some food, fraternized some more then hit the road for the twin cities and arrived on campus at 3:15AM.
At about 4:00PM on Saturday February 23rd at (2)We did a community service show at Totino Grace High  School which held a high school stepping Competition  in a sold-out gymnasium.  The Kids were impressive and it felt rewarding since it provided another outlet besides after school sports or other clubs. Later on that night we attended the night of Blackness at Macalester's student center which also packed a house. Fraternity's that attended included (3) Phi Beta Sigma (From Nebraska), (4)Kappa Alpha Psi, and (5) Omega Psi Phi. The show was a thriller, and afterwards they threw an incredible party which made me realize how much of a diversified and liberal crowd attended Macalester College. Students included, Blacks, Whites, Hippies, Asians, Latinos, Caribbean students from all over the islands, and pretty much people from all over. My guess is in terms of student diversity, if you can name a country, Macalester probably has a student from there. The final show was held on Sunday at 6:00PM at our fine institution and included  The delasouljah steppers from DelaSalle High School, The Wild Goose Chase (6)Cloggers and various acts including Twin Cities Hip-Hop artist RDM.

Well, that was pretty much my whole weekend. Now on to my Genetics exam. Oh, yeah Congratulations to the Mu Chapter of (7)Alpha Phi Alpha for representing The University of Minnesota and winning the Milwaukee step Show! Also shout out to the Sigmas for hitting the road for a 5 hour road trip from Nebraska to St. Paul for the Macalester Step show.
