39 seconds into the second period, CC sophomore forward Andreas Vlassopoulos finally broke onto the scoreboard with his eighth goal of the year. The Los Angeles native bounced a shot off Derek Peltier and in for the power-play goal with assists from Jack Hillen and Nate Prosser.
And after going 20 scoreless minutes to start the game, Minnesota answered right back almost a minute later. Jay Barriball caught a bouncing puck with his glove and had just enough time to drop it to the ice and find Mike Hoeffel standing wide open in front of the net. The freshman forward blasted a shot just under the crossbar to knot the game back up at 1-1.
Hoeffel's goal was a slip-up for the normally stellar CC defense. The skater that should have been covering Hoeffel was too deep in the zone - standing almost right in front of Bachman, which probably prevented the goalie from getting a clean look at the shot.
And after all that action in the first two minutes, not much else happened with the exception of penalties - Minnesota just killed off a big one to end the period.
Just heard, Okposo got the game-winning power-play goal (his second point of the night) in the Islanders' 3-1 win over New Jersey. Nothing against him, but did he have to do it against Martin Broduer?
