Men's Hockey: Pre-game

-St. Cloud State swept No. 4 Denver to pick up its first WCHA wins of the season and Wisconsin picked up three points in the conference standings against UMD. Otherwise everybody else split so rankings shouldn’t change a ton barring a Minnesota win today. Since BU lost, the Gophers would likely jump to No. 1 if they can pull it out, but after yesterday’s game I’m not counting on anything. 

-As the Daily’s resident “violent” sports writer, I feel obligated to tell you that Brock Lesnar straight up pwned, yes pwned, Randy Couture last night to win the UFC title. The former Gophers All-American TKO’d the 45-year old champ in the second round of his fourth mixed martial arts fight. I know I said I wasn’t going to watch it, but I forced myself to Tivo it this morning, and it was well worth it. 

-Did it hurt anyone else to watch Minnesota blow the game last night in Madison? What happens when a one dimensional team loses its only weapon? Well you found out last night.

-I’ve got no lineups since I’m not at the rink yet, but I’ll be amazed if Lucia switches up the lines at all. If Minnesota had blown out Tech yesterday maybe, but after blowing a two goal lead in the third it looks very doubtful.

 

I’ll be back after the game with some thoughts, and the gamer should be up later tonight barring catastrophe.
