Alex Goligoski signs four-year extension with Dallas Stars

Former Gophers hockey player Alex Goligoski has signed a four-year extension that will keep him with Dallas Stars through the 2015-16 season. Goligoski currently has 15 points on the season, which ranks third out of the defensemen on the Stars’ roster.

Goligoski played three full seasons with the Gophers after being drafted with the 61st overall pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2004 NHL Draft. In his time with Minnesota, Goligoski played in 117 games and amassed 98 career points.

He played two seasons in Pittsburgh before he was traded to the Stars in exchange for left winger James Neal and defenseman Matt Niskanen. This is his fourth NHL season and his second with the Stars. Goligoski has scored 33 goals and 87 assists for 120 points in his 236-game career.

Goligoski returned home this past Saturday as his Stars took on the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center. He had an assist in the Stars’ 5-2 loss to the Wild.
