The NCAA multi-year scholarship legislation was narrowly upheld in a membership override vote that concluded Friday.

Of the 330 institutions that voted, 205 schools wanted to overturn the measure approved by the NCAA's Division-I board of directors last October. They needed 207.

Since 1973, recruits have only been awarded one-year renewable scholarships. However, the provision remains optional for schools.

Twenty-five programs did not vote in the week of online balloting.

The multi-year provision is just one of several measures the D-I board of directors passed following a presidential retreat in August.

The board will consider new implementation of another provision, adjustments to the stipend proposal, when they meet in April.
